SMU Lab Days

NTAS has volunteer opportunities to work in the lab with archeological collections at the Southern Methodist University (SMU) Archaeological Research Collections. Started in January 2024, the SMU lab days for NTAS volunteers are generally held on the last Saturday of each month from approximately 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. No prior experience is required to participate. To volunteer for these excellent (and fun!) archeology lab days please contact NTAS Vice President of Projects – Brian Luetchford at vpofprojects@ntxas.org.

Members of NTAS are processing and curating artifact collections from the Texas Archeological Society Field School excavations held in 1971-1972 across various sites in Kerr County. To date NTAS volunteers have processed over 20 boxes from these collections! The lab is always filled with great enthusiasm along with frequent visits from SMU paleontologists and other researchers. The SMU lab also encourages other research and archeological opportunities. Volunteers will likely have the opportunity for a tour of the SMU lab (well worth it!). For additional information on these lab opportunities please review the NTAS newsletter for upcoming dates announced each month.

How do I involve NTAS in my project?

Do you have field projects that you could use a hand with? NTAS would love to help!

Whether it's for field, lab, or reporting assistance, our society has a talented group of volunteers ready to help.

Please email any inquiries and/or project information to  vpofprojects@ntxas.org .
